The remarkable renovation of the derelict plot of land on the Avenue Van Volxem in Brussells was from the very outset designed to meet the requirements of sustainable development. The owner of the project chose Socotec to help it obtain HQE® (High Environmental Quality) certification. |
"We wanted to make sure our project met very high standards of sustainability", explains Alain Wouters, Project Architect. "There is no doubt that the Socotec team's extensive expertise in this area is what allowed us to immediately identify all factors that could have jeopardised our ability to become certified as a HQE® compliant Tertiary Building".
They faced a real challenge since they came in 'after the event' and were required to assess a fully finished project and only had a short deadline - from June to December - within which to obtain the certification. For the Socotec team, it was a question of examining the project point by point, of comparing it to the certification requirements and of proposing improvement solutions whenever they found any evidence of non-compliance in the original project.
